Acer Palmatum Aratama
The dwarf Japanese maple is a deciduous shrub or small red-colored tree. Typically grows up to 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide. It has a slow growth rate and a compact, dense habit. The leaves are small, delicate, and palmate, with 5-7 deeply cut lobes, and are a vibrant red color in spring and a rich green in summer. In fall, they turn a beautiful orange-red color. Aratama produces small, inconspicuous reddish-purple flowers in spring. Distinctively tree has rough grey bark with its mounded form.
Relatively low-maintenance shrubs should only be pruned in summer after the leaves fully develop. It prefers partial shade and well-drained soil and is commonly grown as an ornamental plant in gardens and landscapes. An ideal selection for containers or bonsai.
